Cruz e Souza Palace is one of the most beautiful buildings in Florianopolis
Cruz e Souza Palace is the old pink palace, which received Dom Pedro I and Dom Pedro II in his visits to Brazil. Several statues sculpted by the Italian artist Gabriel Sielva decorate the outside of the building, crowning the parapets.

The Palácio Cruz e Souza, Rosado old Palace is a palace located in the city of Florianopolis, Santa Catarina, located in the historic center of the capital, opposite the city´s main square, Praça XV, having served as the State Government Palace.

In it were born figures, such as the historian Alfonso d´Escragnolle Taunay, son of Viscount Taunay, former president of the province (1876 - 1877), and former Governor Aderbal Ramos da Silva (1947-1951). In addition to the dances and other ceremonies performed there, the palace received illustrious visitors such as D. Peter I in (1826) and D. Peter II (1845 and 1865).

The palace was the scene of dramatic episode in the light of the Federalist Revolution, when, in 1891, was stormed by revolutionaries who stood against the policy of Floriano Peixoto in Santa Catarina, the vice chairman at the time.

Between 1894 and 1898, the government Hercílio Light, the building was refurbished, second, from then on, the original colonial features and assuming eclectic language, full of decorative elements.

Ten allegorical statues sculpted by the Italian artist Gabriel Sielva adorn the exterior of the building, crowning the parapets. Among them, the patroness of the state, Santa Catarina, evocative of the sea nymph, Amphitrite and the mythological god Mercury, composing with two barrels, allegory alluding to trade and industry in Santa Catarina, respectively, the latter being located high on the side facade, the right. The tiles of the pavement in front of the palace were imported and settled in 1910.

Inside the palace stands the magnificent staircase with its balustrade and Carrara marble countertops, finished parts in Italy. Bronze statues of medieval knights and a beautiful stained glass art nouveau enrich the decor.

The house, listed by state and by county, left to hold the office of governor of the state in 1984. Works as a museum since 1986. It was restored in 1977 and 1984. In 1979 became known as Cruz e Sousa Palace in honor of the great poet from Santa Catarina.

In front of the palace, there was a large demonstration against the military regime in 1979, which became known as Novembrada.
