About Aquiraz

Aquiraz is a municipality in the Brazilian state of Ceará, located in the Metropolitan Region of Fortaleza.

Situated on the east coast of Ceará, 27 km from Fortaleza, the city of Aquiraz guard in their roots and traditions of the indigenous European colonizer, not forgetting the remarkable traits of African culture spread throughout the city.

The village was then created by royal order of February 13, 1699, effectively installed on June 27, 1713. It became, therefore, the administrative headquarters of the captaincy Siará-Large by the year 1726, ie, capital of Ceará was until the year 1726, when the capital was moved to Fortaleza.

The installation of Beach Park on the beach of Porto das Dunas Aquiraz put in tour itinerary. After bathing adventure, worth enjoy Prainha, with fine white sand, stretches and other deserts full of tents that serve as peixadas, lobsters, shrimps and crabs.

Nearby Rendeiras Works Center, where artisans weave bobbin lace and maze, one of the legacies of the Portuguese colonizers. Among the pieces are beautiful bedspreads, tablecloths, table runners, linens and beach exits.

The city also houses the Beach Prison, one of the busiest of Ceará during Carnival. The animation is on account of the blocks and concerts with local bands. The young crowd makes the party and divide the large space - Presidio has two miles long - with families, who enjoy the calm and kiosks.

The memories of the illustrious past of Aquiraz are stored around the Plaza Canon Araripe and worth a visit. Start at the parish church of San José Ribamar, 1713, with original paintings of the 19th century.

Then explore the Museo Sacro Sao Jose de Ribamar, in the former Town Hall and Jail (1742), which presents images of the 18th century. Complete the Old Meat Market (18th century), the Arts Market today.
